UCLan Astronomer on the Jodcast - January 2010
31st January 2010
On a recent research visit to the University of Manchester, Dr Stewart Eyres took some time out to give and interview to Dr Tim O'Brien for inclusion in the January 2010 Extra Jodcast. He spoke to Tim about the fascinating born-again giant star Sakurai's object, ranging over stellar evolution, planetary nebulae, white dwarfs and the contribution amateur astronomers can make to modern science.
The Jodcast is one of the world's most popular podcasts, produced by astronomers at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics. Stewart contributed to the January 2010 Extra edition and talks about research he has been involved in since 1996. Stewart studies a number of evolved stars including classical novae, recurrent novae, symbiotic stars and born-again giants. A former Course Leader for the UCLan distance learning programme, he is currently Associate Head of the School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences, module leader for AA1057 Investigations in Astronomy and one of the tutors on AA3056 Extreme States of Matter.
